Lightless Arbor is a Dungeon. It can be found in the Last Refuge. The level of Enemies and maximum Equipment drops in this zone is 22. Lightless Arbor is a Dungeon.

Access[]

The dungeon is accessible from the Shrouded Ridge, connected to the Surface. The Lightless Arbor can be entered by expending a Lightless Arbor Key at the entrance.

Overview[]

Deep down in the heart of the mountains of Last Refuge lies a pristine arbor that has not yet been conquered by the devouring Void. The dark arbor houses bewildered, animated plants and rocks that pose a threat to anyone venturing there. One of them is a massive rock formation, the Mountain Beneath, which moves with such mass that it constantly shakes Last Refuge, causing cave-ins and avalanches that claim more and more casualties. Beyond the dense overgrowth lie vaults of abundant riches long lost to history.

Darkness and the Pyre Amber[]

In the Lightless Arbor, the entire dungeon is shrouded in darkness, where monsters thrive, gaining massively increased damage and resistance. In order to counteract this, a lucent crystal called Pyre Amber accompanies the player, illuminating their surroundings.

The Amber can be sent to a nearby location to illuminate it instead with the dungeon ability, Illumination (toggled by the D key). Using the ability again recalls the Amber to the player. Taking damage as long as the Amber is in a recalled state drains the power of the Amber, reducing its light radius. It can be recharged by collecting Amber from slain Amber Elementals: luminous animate crystals that aren't affected by Darkness.

Kindlings[]

Every now and then, massive inflammable piles of vegetation called "Kindlings" are encountered. When standing near them with the Amber, they are gradually lit up until the whole pile is on fire, removing them.

Kindlings are present between the first two stages of the dungeon, as well as in the first arena, where one on both sides each must be ignited to progress with the fight.

Reward[]

After the last room lie The Vaults of Uncertain Fate: a massive treasury that houses a great deal of items. Once per run, one player can interact with the vault by tailoring dropped loot. The player must spend gold on accepting or denying options presented, until being able or willing to afford to do so. After that, the vault opens and spawns treasure chests.

Much like in other dungeons, one of two modifiers can be chosen between level transitions. Besides increasing enemy health and damage, the following rules also apply:

  • the first modifier enhances drops from monsters,
  • the second modifier enhances drops from the dungeon boss.
