The Void is a mysterious alien entity, one of the key elements of the World of Eterra.
Origins[]
The origins of the Void are unknown. It is said that when Eterra formed the world out of nothingness a shard of The Void remained, which she kept hidden in the Temple of Eterra.
Sentient creatures falling victim to the Void have a tendency to embrace its power and herald an unknown entity, Orobyss.
Properties[]
The Void is a purple, formless substance imbued with energies. It can spread and multiply itself at an alarming rate, sticking to surfaces and deforming them, while creating overgrowths. Upon contact with living organisms, the Void consumes the life force in the host and slowly takes control over them. The Void is immune to extreme temperatures and circumstances, able to withstand flame, ice and corrosion.
Sometimes, the Void transfers its dark energy to its victim, maddening it and irreversibly warping their body. Through its inexplicable powers, it can give their body appendages and slowly reform their body. Voidfused Bears are a known species that can spit void projectiles through an elongated horn-like protrusion. The Void can even take over magically animated or fueled objects, such as piles of armor and forges.
Unlike other substances, the Void is also able to construct entire living bodies from itself. Void creatures of countless kinds exist in different sizes, with a visible bearing of pure Void origins. Dying entities that are consumed by Void energies do not leave a corpse behind.
The Void however completely dissolves under the effect of magical energies of the Epoch. Fragments of the artifact can keep a reasonably large area free from the Void's effects.
History[]
Ruined Era[]
The Void has entered and spread throughout the world during the Ruined Era, extinguishing most forms of life on its path, and transforming the remaining ones throughout Eterra. Only some fortunate areas that were not yet assailed by it, or those under the protection of the Epoch's shards, could prevail.
The last haven of humanity has existed in 1290 AG, in the central territories of Eterra. In The Council Chambers, the Elders have taken refuge, but the Void's grasp eventually extends into the borders. Void creatures of different forms, as well as the Void itself warps and enslaves the minds of entire flocks of humans, corrupting even leaders such as Elder Pannion. The Epoch's shards are however retaken by the Traveller on the brink of total submission, saving the Council Chambers.
