Undead are creatures that can be found throughout the World of Eterra. They are especially common during the Imperial Era due to the necromantic experiments conducted by the Immortal Emperor.

Origins[]

The Immortal Empire[]

Some time after the Gods faded into non-existence, a reanimated lich called the Immortal Emperor rose into power. Having amassed a large number of loyal reanimated remains, he used them to force the living into submission by the droves, marking the dawn of the Imperial era. The ranks of undead keeps expanding: not only humans, but various fauna of Eterra as well are turned into undead. Some animals are imbued with necromantic magics, which they can utilize by instinct.

Less fortunate people are not kept for servitude; instead, they are used in sacrificial rituals, so that their souls can be put away in large repositories that fuels the Emperor's magical powers. Soul repositories are also used to power the Empire's giant waypoint network, which is built across Eterra in order to mobilize quickly.

Not all humans are disposed of by the Empire though. Those willing enough to dabble in the dark arts and continue learning the mysteries of necromancy are employed as dark wizards, who can reanimate bones and conjure wraiths.

As the Immortal Empire grew larger, the Emperor put his trust in the hands of undead overseers and wardens, who enforce the Emperor's rule and are responsible for order. Several animated constructs are also used to contain souls themselves, or summon reinforcements themselves. The Emperor's closest affiliates are however corrupted humans, who were promised great abilities and even immortality in return for their services. They continue to live in warped bodies, however their natural strength is magically amplified, thanks to the Emperor's necromantic powers.

The Acolyte[]

The Acolyte is a former wizard apprentice from Welryn. She turned to the forbidden arts of magic after she found her tuition unappealing and boring, which was discovered and caused her to be exiled from the city. During her roam, the Acolyte has honed their skills by a great degree, and she keeps utilizing her power for her own good.

The Acolyte can conjure and raise various undead creatures from naught, such as skeletons and golems. She can also stitch together the sinew and bones of a legion of monsters to build large monstrosities: abominations.
